Audio Filters info & A/V sync with analog output

  • Hi,

I think some of these questions were asked before but the post I found wasn't clear:

    1) Regarding the audio filter settings; I assume those are the digital filter settings for 16 bit/44.1kHz music (CD format)?  If so, is there any information on the filters?  These are the filters that can be selected via the "AUDIO P" remote button.

    2) The 'delay' feature in the audio filter settings; is the delay in miliseconds to all outputs, analog and digital outputs or analog only?  I run the analog outputs to two integrated amps, two for front-channel outputs, two for surround rear channels.  I'm seeing big audio/video sync issues when I use my analog sound system compared to the video but none when I use the HDMI output driving my TV+soundbar.

    3) A more general question:  is there any place we can find information on the updated player settings?  I'm finding several differences (most are minor differences but are some completely different, missing or added settings) when compared to what's in the included paper/PDF manual.

  • Hello,

We recommend visiting the FAQ page in the SUPPORT section of the website for details on the filters/delays.

    Thank You

  • @Magnetar Concierge  thanks for the quick reply, the FAQ was extremely helpful in what the filter differences are.

Unfortunately FAQ doesn't address the delay setting in the audio filter selections, A/V sync issues when using analog equipment nor the settings differences between the manual and the latest firmware.

  • The filters are applicable only to the DAC as those are ESS filters in the 900 and are in ms.

We would recommend utilizing either the available sync settings in the player, your amp, or your display or in combination as needed to address any local sync issues.

We would need specificity as to which settings you are referring to.

    Thank You

  • My soundbar and TV are connected via the eARC port of my TV (both are Sony products).  The Magnetar player is connected to my TV via HDMI to the 4K port.  I have no issues with A/V sync when using HDMI-only connections.

Where I see issues is using the analog outputs of the player driving my analog amplifiers.  The audio appears to lead the video so I need to delay the UDP900's analog output.

First, in the digital filter settings accessed via the "AUDIO P" button, the delay function circled is what I was asking about.  Does this set the analog audio delay relative to video output either ahead or behind the video output in miliseconds?

Or, would I make adjustment in the Settings menu?  I'm specifically asking about

    Settings -> Speaker Settings

I assume the "Distance" function is actually a delay?  I would think it would force the audio output to lead the video but I need the audio to lag the video.

I find no other sync settings in the UDP900 but have seen lead/lag delay settings in other video disk players.

  • Hello,

HDMI output is unrelated to Analog output.

The delay function simply adds or removes time to the decoded audio before it hits the connectors.

The distance function in the speakers would not remedy a sync issue. That specially related to the distance of the speaker from the listening position and adjusts timing based on that setting.

Process of elimination is always the best place to start.

Do you have the same sync issues out of the headphone jack that you do your speakers? If not, the issue is past the Magnetar. We have no open reports globally for delay issues that aren't a natural result of running signal through a chain of equipment which adds time. When you mix in video processing, you can easily and commonly do run into issues. HDMI being entirely different as there is sync correction in place for a fully eARC signal chain that would not be seen on Analog.  Running two independent amps also would be a point of possibility.

Most integrated amps and TV's have delay settings, as well as the player.

Delay settings are modified based on a large list of things, all of which are unique to the chain, amp, wiring, electronics, etc.

    Thanks

  • Same issue with the headphone jack, the audio and video are out of sync.

  • 1) Please insure your firmware is up to date

    2) Please insure you are using the headphone jack of the player, not the amp

    3) Please insure that your delay settings are at 0 in the delay settings

    4) Please detail what your source is in specific

    5) Please insure your video processing is not creating the issue by turning off all video signal processing settings on your display

    6) Please describe "sync issue" in specific and what that is defined as. What is early and what is late?

    Thank You
