Annoying BD-Live prompt

  • If you prohibit BD Live access on the player, every time you start a movie there is a prompt saying you'rr disconnected to the internet, in which you have to always select OK. It's not much, but it gets annoying. Is there any way to fix this?

    thanks

  • I've had that 'bug' in my player since I bought it in April 2025 (a 900 mark 1 model).  Annoying to say the least but I left the blasted BD Live turned on to avoid the idiotic prompt.   There's no BD Live content anymore anyways but still, you are spot on the player should not do this stuff.

A lot of features in this player but there are some annoying quirks and several undocumented features.  It does not help that the manual was out of date when I bought it.

  • Yeah. I don't know if it is placebo or not, but when I deactivated bd live I had less problems with freezing and skipping in movies. But the prompt is annoying, not as annoying as a movie freezing though. At least they keep updating the mk1 models as well, so maybe one day we will have that fixed

  • That's quite interesting, I didn't have the BD live option turned off for long once I found that idiotic annoyance.  I never got any chances to see if it improved skipping.

I also found many discs would have small skips/stutters during playback.  It was rare when I got the machine but got worse in the last few months.  I noticed the audio didn't do the same skip when I saw the video glitch.

It got me thinking it might be a TV issue.  I have a Sony Bravia 7 TV (the 2024 model, not the new Mark 2 model) and sure enough, there were gripes about micro-stutters with the TV.  The supposed solution was to reduce some of the image processing settings in the TV, the glitches was supposedly related to frame insertion with any source that wasn't 60fps.  I followed some suggestions to eliminate the situation and none worked for me.

I then thought "maybe this is an HDMI issue".  I thought I fixed any HDMI handshake issues last year by turning off the HDMI CEC capabiilty in the player but maybe this was an issue with TV's "remembered" connection to the player, that there was some HDMI handshake/sync issue.  I noticed recently that my TV would not show the player as "configured" in the connected device settings, it seemed to forget the Magnetar as configured after a few power cycles.  It never did that when I had the player's CEC control turned on.

So, I unplugged my sound bar, my Roku Ultra box and the Magnetar player.  Since the TV is running on an Android OS, I stopped the OS's device discovery/configuruation application and deleted it's data.  I rebooted the TV, before it got a chance to restart I also unplugged the TV after it powered down for good measure   I left it unplugged for 10 minutes.

After the rebooted TV was fully operational I reconnected all HDMI cables to the TV.   I then ran the configuration setup for each item, this time as I stated earlier with the Magnetar's CEC setting turned on.   I noticed after a week the TV never forgot the Magnetar configuration like it used to.

BTW, in my TV, when CEC is "on" in the player, the TV automatically finds it's a blu-ray player connected, when CEC is "off" I have to tell it it's a disc player and not a media player, cable box, gaming box, etc..  After set-up I don't seem to get the micro-stutter/skips in the picture anymore.

Give that a try, it might be the TV causing your skips and not the player, assuming you see the video doing the skipping but audio never has that issue.

  • Thank you for that detailed explanation, I really don't remember what are the settings I'm using for CEC. I'll check it for sure.

    Thanks :)

  • One other item but this only works when the disc is new:

Make sure to play the disc from beginning to end, including any extra features, soon after you buy the disc.  If something is off, you're in the return window and won't get stuck with a defecrtive disc.

One indicator of a possible bum disc itself is if the disc takes longer than typical to load.  Whenever I have that happen the disc goes back, the replacements rarely exhibit the issue.  So, that implies it is a disc manufacturing goof-up.

I also make sure I can watch the disc from beginning to end before the return period.  I had one disc, the 4k version of Monty Python and the Holy Grail that seemed OK.  It played flawlessly until 4 mintues before the end of the film; the image froze up (🤬 🤬 🤬).  The issue was reproduceable, it was a bum disc.  So, back it went.  Quite irritating how flawless the playback was until the very end.

It's not ideal but there are some shoddy discs out there, checking them thoroughly with playing start to end when just purchased at least will prevent you from being stuck with a defect.

  • Yeah I had movies freezing on the credits , and unfortunetely I couldn t returned them

  • @Thomas Mathes With the latest update I think they fixed the prompt thing.

i have it disabled and it never showed up again :)

  • In the future check those video discs before the return window. I find CDs and SACDs rarely give issues but DVDs, BRs and 4k's are a roll of the dice.  What's most annoying is when a disc fails to load after a few tries  but loads finally.  I'm not sure if it's the disc or the playerin those cases.
