That's quite interesting, I didn't have the BD live option turned off for long once I found that idiotic annoyance. I never got any chances to see if it improved skipping.
I also found many discs would have small skips/stutters during playback. It was rare when I got the machine but got worse in the last few months. I noticed the audio didn't do the same skip when I saw the video glitch.
It got me thinking it might be a TV issue. I have a Sony Bravia 7 TV (the 2024 model, not the new Mark 2 model) and sure enough, there were gripes about micro-stutters with the TV. The supposed solution was to reduce some of the image processing settings in the TV, the glitches was supposedly related to frame insertion with any source that wasn't 60fps. I followed some suggestions to eliminate the situation and none worked for me.
I then thought "maybe this is an HDMI issue". I thought I fixed any HDMI handshake issues last year by turning off the HDMI CEC capabiilty in the player but maybe this was an issue with TV's "remembered" connection to the player, that there was some HDMI handshake/sync issue. I noticed recently that my TV would not show the player as "configured" in the connected device settings, it seemed to forget the Magnetar as configured after a few power cycles. It never did that when I had the player's CEC control turned on.
So, I unplugged my sound bar, my Roku Ultra box and the Magnetar player. Since the TV is running on an Android OS, I stopped the OS's device discovery/configuruation application and deleted it's data. I rebooted the TV, before it got a chance to restart I also unplugged the TV after it powered down for good measure I left it unplugged for 10 minutes.
After the rebooted TV was fully operational I reconnected all HDMI cables to the TV. I then ran the configuration setup for each item, this time as I stated earlier with the Magnetar's CEC setting turned on. I noticed after a week the TV never forgot the Magnetar configuration like it used to.
BTW, in my TV, when CEC is "on" in the player, the TV automatically finds it's a blu-ray player connected, when CEC is "off" I have to tell it it's a disc player and not a media player, cable box, gaming box, etc.. After set-up I don't seem to get the micro-stutter/skips in the picture anymore.
Give that a try, it might be the TV causing your skips and not the player, assuming you see the video doing the skipping but audio never has that issue.
