Unwanted audio conversion with Magnetar UDP800MKII on Roon (ref#K3WCS1)

  • Hi All,

I add my new Roon certified Magnetar UDP800MKII in my audio/video system.
I have Roon Rock server on intel nuc with Qobuz and a large stereo and 5.1 track collection on local storage. I have UDP800MKII connected by hdmi and rca to my Anthem MRX740. Roon discover correctly the new Magnetar device but during playback add unnecessary covertion on audio track down sampling to 44,1 Khz

On 5.1 tracks, i note downsampling and also channel mapping conversion from 5.1 to 2.0.

I create a ticket support on roon at this link where you can find all my test and roon answers: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/unwanted-audio-conversion-with-magnetar-udp800mkii-on-roon-ref-k3wcs1/314214

Regarding the issue of downsampling, Roon acknowledged the problem. As for channel conversion, they reiterated that Magnetar's Roon Ready certification only covers stereo playback and that 5.1 to 2.0 conversion is therefore normal. As a Magnetar customer, this is completely new to me. In fact, there is no mention of this huge limitation in any of your documentation or on any of your commercial channels! !!
In fact, if I play a 5.1 FLAC file from a USB archive or network share, Magnetar sends the data in bitstream via HDMI and in analog (after conversion to stereo) to the RCA and balanced outputs... Why would it not be possible to do the same via a ROON source?
For a customer who has spent €2,000 on one of your products, it would be greatly appreciated if you could contact Roon and resolve this unfortunate situation...

    Thank you

  • Hello

The 2.0 playback is normal as Roon has confirmed for you and the conversion issue has been resolved via a firmware update.

For direct support issues please contact your local dealer / distributor in your territory of purchase.

    Thank you
