I have been using the 800 MKII for a few days. I also have 2 of the MKI (original) 800's. I use the players for work purposes (QC) as media players only through the rear USB port. I very rarely use them to actually spin discs. I love the 800 as a media player.
So far, the MKII has had a few issues with USB playback. The USB drive disconnects itself in the middle of playback for no reason. I get a "USB OUT" message and a "USB IN" message a few seconds later. This does not happen with the other two 800's (MKI).
I am using an 8TB portable Sandisk SSD. I use this same exact drive in the MKI's. I also use M.2 NVMe SSD's in enclosures.
I have used the original 800's for 2 years. They are my daily workhorses and usually run non-stop 8+ hours a day. I very rarely had USB issues with them. But the MKII has already acted up 3 times in less than a week. It was supposed to be more reliable when it comes to USB playback.
Please look into this. Thank you!
Esteban
We recommend opening a support ticket directly.
Thanks
Hi Esteban
You would do so through the same methodology as your ticket from earlier this week by emailing concierge@magnetarusa.com
Thanks
I did not submit a ticket this week. I only inquired about shipping. But I will email the address you specified. Thank you!
@Esteban Medaglia Hi Esteban,
Thanks for the feedback. Your profile shows a support request regarding BDMV playback issues through that direct supportchannel.
We've replied and will post below for others in the event this issue arises for them.
What you’re describing is consistent with a USB power-renegotiation event rather than a playback or decoding issue. The UDP-800 MKII uses a revised USB subsystem compared to the MKI, with tighter power and device-management tolerances. In rare cases, high-capacity bus-powered SSDs (including some 8TB SanDisk Extreme models) can briefly exceed current thresholds during sustained reads, which causes the player to momentarily drop and re-enumerate the drive — resulting in the “USB OUT / USB IN” message you’re seeing.
This is why the same drive can appear stable on the MKI, which was more electrically permissive, and on computers, but show intermittent disconnects on the MKII.
This particular model series is a frequent offender as exampled here:

The most reliable solution is to place the SSD on a powered USB hub so the drive is no longer drawing power directly from the player. Alternatively, drives with lower transient power draw (or SATA-based SSDs in USB enclosures) tend to be more stable in embedded playback environments.
This is not an indication of a defect with your player, and we are continuing to evaluate firmware-level improvements where possible.
Thanks
