Please bring back the analog delay setting ability

    I found out today that a recent firmware release removed the analog audio delay function in the UDP900.  I don't know if the 800 model had the delay set feature.

    Unfortunately that makes using the player's analog outputs for use with my TV useless.  My TV (a Sony Bravia 7) has no such adjustment, just an A/V sync function only for the HDMI connection.   The 200ms analog delay wasn't enough for my TV but now the situation was made a lot worse to the point of being a useless major feature of the player.

    I'd like to request (maybe I should say beg) to have that function restored, for a player in this price range it can be a deal breaker for prospective customer.  If I'd have known the analog audio delay couldn't be adjusted I sure would not have bought the player.

    As you are not connecting the analog outs to the Bravia, we would recommend using the delay functions within your amp/pre-amp to accomodate any analog delays you are seeing.

    I want to make sure it's clear how I connect the TV and my external audio to the player:

    - HDMI output 1 from the player to an HDMI input on my TV (a 4k/60Hz input); I use an HDMI 2.1 certified cable to connect the player to the TV

    - I turn down the volume on the TV to zero when using the analog audio gear (muting the TV leaves an annoying mute logo on the screen)

    - The Rf output from the player to the "R" input from one of the preamp's hi-level input (ie, to an input that does not go to a phono input stage)

    - I've tried several hi-level inputs to the preamp, as expected no change between the inputs on the sound

    - The Lf output of the player to the "L" input of the premap

    - Preamp's outputs to an external power amplifier

    My audio gear is pure analog, no delay settings are possible

    - The preamp is a Soundcraftsmen DX4200 (rather old but it still works quite well)

    - The amp is a Soundcraftmen Pro-Power 4 (same; old but still works well)

    The gear is pure analog down to the mechanical switches for the input selectors.  You could easily say it's all "old school" equipement.  😁

    The TV has no analog inputs nor outputs, I don't think any of the new main-stream brand TVs have analog I/O anymore.    The TV only has an optical output port.  There are no audio adjustment settings in it.

    I bought this player specifically for the multi-channel analog outputs, along with it's capability to play SACD/DVD-A discs.  I can still use the analog out for listening to the CD/SACD/DVD-A discs  but I was hoping to use it for the TV on occasion since I did the same with my old DVD and Bluray players but that's not feasable now.

    Is there a reason why you dont just turn the HDMI 1 audio off in the audio settings?

    Very few if any mid/higher end displays support analog inputs, that is correct. 

    The equipment you are stating you have would introduce delays far beyond the scope of the players delay capabilities from first connection, especially when combined with Sony's signal processing contributions to the latency equation. 

    You would need something outside the capability of the Magnetar delays to resolve your issue. In fact, you'd find the same problem with an Oppo and many other source devices that limit to 200ms.

    You might look into adding an analog delay if you have no source based delay controls in your signal path.

    Setting HDMI to off requires going into the player's settings, turning the TV's sound to zero is easy.  I'm lazy.  😁

    I did try turning the player's HDMI audio off, thinking it might help but it did not.

    Except for going to a A/V receiver, what product can introduce delay with an analog audio output?  It sounds like I should have gone the A/V receiver route in the end.

    Turning the HDMI off in the audio settings only needs to be done once. 

    If you'd rather use your TV remote, of course thats your preference. 

    Try looking at Vanco products, we have heard of customers who have used them with success.

    I mostly use a soundbar with the TV, the audio gear was for occasional use only.  That's why I don't turn off the HDMI audio.
