We often get inquiries regarding the region free/iso playback capability of our players.

Our players are not and cannot be sold region free.

This is a modification that is performed by third parties after purchase by the end customer. You can read more here: https://www.magnetarusa.com/community/xenforum/topic/147033/region-free-playback

Technology

Yes, audio is sent out both HDMI/Digital and Analog simultaneously.

Yes, Magnetar players support dual HDMI. You can use HDMI 2 to send audio to AVR's and Pre-Amps which do not support the video formats the Magnetar players do (i.e. 4K, HDR 10+, Dolbyvision, 3D, etc).

If your AVR/Pre-Amp supports all of the formats the Magnetar does, it is recommended that you use HDMI 1 directly to you AVR/Pre-Amp and HDMI out of your Pre-Amp to your display. This will alleviate any EDID based issues from displays that do not support audio.

Unfortunately, Magnetar players do not support HDMI inputs.

Both the Magnetar UDP800 and UDP900 player support up to 16TB drives for external media storage.

The UDP900 also has USB input to the XMOS processor used for USB DAC.

The UDP800 and UDP900 are ethernet only to insure optimum bandwidth throughput for locally networked storage.

With a maximum volume of 100, the player ships with a default value of 20 to insure the customer can implement the volume control as needed based on their needs on install.

To adjust the player volume output, there are volume + / - buttons on the remote that allow you to adjust the audio output level of the player as needed/required.

Dolby and DTS audio require the player to be set on Bitstream out.

To do this, set the HDMI output to Bitstream via the menu by navigating the following:
Settings->Audio->HDMI->Bitstream.

When playing SACD and DSF files in UDP800 and UDP900, the results are dependent on a few parameters. Depending on whether the device connected to the player supports DSD will determine whether the player is processed by DSD natively or linear PCM.

There is a player setting item called "SACD", and it is possible to select DSD and PCM, but the output will always be subject to the supported formats of the hardware the player is connected to.

If the connected hardware supports DSD:

From HDMI OUT, DSD native signal is output.

From the analog output, the DSD native signal is transmitted to the DAC chip, and then the D/A-converted analog signal is output.

If the connected hardware does not support DSD:

From HDMI OUT, the signal converted from DSD to linear PCM is output.

From the analog output, the analog signal converted from DSD to linear PCM is transmitted to the DAC chip, and then the analog signal converted to D/A is output.

It is possible to customize the display of subtitles from the remote control "subtitle" button.

The position of the subtitles can be adjusted up and down.

You can adjust the size of the characters.

You can adjust the display timing of subtitles.

It is possible to adjust the color of the subtitles.

You can adjust the font of the subtitles.

※We appreciate your understanding in advance that 2-5 items may not be modified due to some disc restrictions.

Brick Wall

One of the early designs was a filter aimed at reducing post-ringing and pre-ringing as much as possible. Provides linear
phase, clear and clean high frequencies.

Hybrid Fast Roll-off Minimum Phase Filter

It is a filter that combines linear phase and minimum phase. It offers fast transient attacks, punchy bass, and crisp highs.

Apodizing Fast Roll-off Linear Phase Filter

Apodizing high-speed roll-off filter

Slow Roll-off Minimum Phase Filter

It is an asymmetric filter designed to minimize preringing. It provides an excellent punchy bass to transients.

Fast Roll-off Minimum Phase Filter

With minimal pre-ringing characteristics, preferred for imaging and sound stage. There is no aliasing in the frequency range, providing a lower bass and a cleaner high sound than linear phase.

Slow Roll-off Linear Phase Filter

Low group delay and symmetrical input response. Less ringing than linear. Fast roll-off of phase. Linear-phase fast roll-off filter
provides punchy bass and clean high notes.

Fast Roll-off Linear Phase Filter

The most common filter with clean overall suppression and excellent rejection, transients are ideal for music with large transients. Provides a clear, clean high range.

Magnetar Remote Control App

Player Issues

Debris

Fingerprints, debris, outgassing, or scratched/blemished discs, while frustrating, are not the only cause of customers having disc issues. If there is dirt/debris/fingerprints, please wipe it off with a dry cloth, etc., and do not play a disc that has warped. It's always a good idea to have a micro-fiber cloth handy as it can be the slightest blemish that can cause mega-frustration. Insuring your discs are clean is the first step when issues are experienced.

Disc Variances

As one of the largest physical media player manufacturers in the world, we have observed that commercial disc playback issues are unfortunately player industry wide. This is primarily due to the variance of quality of disc manufacturers, compliance with specifications, and authoring variances.

Due to the wide range of manufacturers and the authoring process, playback compatibility cannot be guaranteed on all discs. In some cases, some titles may play where other same title discs will not, as discs for each country are different or manufacturing plants are different .

NOTE: BD-R XL and BD-RE XL media cannot be played back.

Region Locked Discs

MAGNETAR players may not be compatible with playback on some discs due to region locked titles. Be sure your disc is for the US region or it may not play.

There are disc specifications that are completely different for each region. Similarly, discs obtained from outside the United States, such as imports, may also have compatibility issues.

Known Disc Manufacturing Issues

Recently, it has been learned that a large number of both DVD and Bluray titles were found to be poorly manufactured and we've seen some customers reporting this as player issues.

It's an unfortunate reality of the medium and we are always working hard to insure playability and compatibility with every title and often work with cooperating studios when customer patterns arise around certain titles.

You can learn more about these types of issues here: https://www.joblo.com/over-600-blu-ray-titles-no-longer-work/ and here: https://www.joblo.com/warner-bros-dvds-dont-work

General Information

A good point of reference is if the player is seeing issues persistently with every disc, not the occasional disc issue. In these cases, we're happy to step in, take a look and make sure your player is operating correctly via our support channels.

In sum, the occasional disc misread, freeze, skip, is a rare and unfortunate nature of the beast. Googling the issue can also help reveal certain tips and tricks and reveal if there are any issues native to certain problem titles or discs.

It is recommended that you insure all of your sharing permissions are set to allow the player to access your network based files/folders. If you secure them, be sure to note any username or password needed by the player to access them.

While we cannot assist with issues related to customer networks, security settings, or operating system settings, (we cannot be responsible for networking/security issues and cannot discuss any details other than the above with customers), we're happy to assist with any player related issues in specific.

As a result of the simultaneous output of audio via HDMI and Analog, audio dropouts can occur based on and HDMI handshake initiation/re-initiation (turning on tv while listening to analog audio, audio will drop 3 short intervals while the HDMI handshake occurs). Also, devices in the HDMI chain that persistently poll devices can cause interruptions. We have seen devices which poll incessantly and needlessly causing excesive traffic on the CEC bus resulting in handshake drops and reinitiation between devices.

When playing a 4K 60p HDR source, it is recommended to set the value of "Display Settings - Color Space" to "YCbCr4:2:2".

This is derived from the fact that the upper limit of the data rate used for HDMI output is 18Gbps in the 4K UHD Blu-ray standard. Since the color space setting value is prioritized in the current MAGNETAR player specification, the image is output at YCbCr4:4:4, but when you try to transmit the video at 4K 60 frames / per second at YCbCr4:4, the conversion occurs because the total data rate is insufficient, and the color depth is output at 8bit.

4K60p YCbCr4:4:4 8bit(HDR) = 18Gbps

Since the color depth is lower than normal, the amount of information in the tonal expression is reduced, and the image can be moiré in appearance.

4K60p YCbCr:4:2:2 10bit(HDR) = 18Gbps

When YCbCr4:2:2 is played back, the color depth becomes 10bit and is output correctly.
