Love my UDP800, but I do find the following a bit frustrating:
It force-plays SDR menus and SDR extras in a Dolby Vision UHD disc in Dolby Vision. Even studio logos default to Dolby Vision/rec2020, regardless of whether they are SDR/709 or not. Is there a way to prevent this? The Panasonic 820 does the same thing. The Oppo 203 switches between Dolby Vision and SDR content within the same disc "on the fly", which is fantastic. This is one of the few things about the Magnetar I dislike, but perhaps there is a way around it that does not involve manually enabling/disabling HDR/DV all the time.
Is this intentional/by design? If so, I am genuinely curious to understand why.
As somebody who uses the player mostly for work/testing, being able to play back the correct color space and HDR/SDR format within a UHD disc is crucial for me. Please consider making this defeatable in a future firmware update.
No reply on the above? It'd be great if this could be addressed on the new, MKII model.
Nothing on this yet after months since my original post? I confess this is truly disappointing.
It would be great if this could be addressed on the Mark II. Currently, this is one huge issue for me and the reason why I still use my Oppo 203 the most.
@Esteban Medaglia Have you tried using source direct mode? I am not currently at home so I can't test it, but I think I read it somewhere...
@Tiago Soares Yes. In fact, "Source Direct" is the only mode I use. Most playes force HDR settings on SDR content if that SDR content is in an HDR disc. The Oppo 203 is the only player I know of that does not.
@Esteban Medaglia well I hope Magnetar launches a patch soon then! I am very happy with the player, but indeed for this price point they should be morr responsive to their costumers!!
Any updates on this, Magnetar team? If this is implemented I would consider buying a Mrk II player.
